Chiefly papers of Roger Griswold (1762-1812), Connecticut governor and U.S. representative. Also include Roger Wolcott's diary of the siege of Louisburg in 1745 together with his autobiography and religious reflections, 1745-1755. Also include letters of the Griswold, Rogers, Williams, and Woodbridge families of Connecticut. Correspondents include Roger Griswold, Matthew Griswold, Fanny Rogers Griswold, Marian Griswold Chandler Lane Elz, Dudley Woodbridge, Lucy Woodbridge, Lucretia Shaw Woodbridge, Joseph Williams, Nevins Perkins, and William Colt. Topics include general business transactions, affairs in Congress, the Revolutionary War (especially the sieges of Boston and New York), the Louisiana purchase, and U.S. foreign relations. Other materials include land appraisals, deeds and surveys.

Dudley Woodbridge was born in Stonington, Conn. on Oct. 9, 1747. After graduating from Yale University in 1766, he moved on Norwich, Conn. He married Lucy Backus on Apr. 28, 1774. In 1788 they moved to Marietta, Ohio, where Mr. Woodbridge served as judge of the peace. He died in Marietta on Aug. 6, 1823. From the description of Dudley Woodbridge papers, 1729-1837.
